NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 November 13, 2009 Northwestern Nebraska Crash Claims Two Lives(Scottsbluff, NE)- A 17-year-old Box Butte, County teen and her 15-year-old sister were killed and a 49- year-old South Dakota man injured in a two vehicle crash 10 miles west of Hemingford on Highway 2 in Box Butte, County Nebraska.
The crash occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m., (MST), on Friday, November 13, 2009, when an eastbound 2004 Dodge Durango crossed the center line of Highway 2 near mm 57 and was struck by a westbound 2007 Ford F450 pickup.
The driver of the Durango, 17-year-old Andrea Michael and her 15-year-old sister Taylor Michael both of Marsland, Nebraska were killed in the crash. The driver of the pickup 49-year-old David Zaiser of Summerset, South Dakota was transported to the Box Butte General Hospital, where he was treated and released. Seat belts were worn by both fatalities. It is unknown if the driver of the pickup was buckled up.
A rain and snow mix was falling in the area and investigators believe weather may have played a role in the accident. ###
