Short Pursuit Leaves Suspects All Wet

(Norfolk, NE)-  One person is in custody following a short pursuit which ended in a splash after the vehicle drove off a cliff into a sandpit.

Shortly before 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2009, a trooper with the Troop B Headquarters- Norfolk, was working in the Ainsworth area, when he responded to assist a Brown County Sheriff Deputy in pursuit of a black Audi.  The Deputy had attempted a traffic stop on Highway 20 on the east end of Ainsworth, when the vehicle took off.

The trooper joined the pursuit about three miles east of Ainsworth on a county road.   The vehicle traveled several county roads in the area before turning into a pasture.  The vehicle drove through the pasture, plowing through several fences. The trooper who was about a quarter of a mile behind the vehicle observed it disappear followed by a huge splash of water.   The trooper found the vehicle floating in a sandpit with two people and two dogs swimming toward the bank.  Neither suspects were injured and were then taken into custody without incident by the trooper and a Brown County Deputy.

The male driver of the car was identified as 20-year-old Brandon Gipson.  He was lodged in the Brown County Jail on charges of Failure to Pay and Flight to Avoid Arrest.  The female passenger, 19 year old Elizabeth Fisk, of Fargo, North Dakota, was taken to the Brown County Hospital where she was treated and released.  The two dogs were transported to a local veterinarian shelter.

The black 1998 Audi driven by the suspects had been stolen out of Fargo, North Dakota.  The Brown County Sheriff’s Office continues the investigation into the stolen vehicle.
