Driver Arrested After Short Pursuit

(Lincoln, NE)- A Bennet, Nebraska man was taken into custody and lodged on charges ranging from Flight to Avoid Arrest to Driving Under the Influence 4th Offense, after leading troopers on a short pursuit.

Shortly after 1:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2009, troopers with Headquarters Troop-Lincoln were advised by the Lincoln Police Department to be on the lookout for a white Cadillac Escalade with stolen Nebraska plates.   An SUV matching the description was observed eastbound on the Interstate near the Airport Interchange.   The trooper who was westbound alerted another trooper near the 56th Street Interchange of the approaching SUV.   The Escalade exited the Interstate, at which time the trooper was able to confirm the license plate matched the one reported as stolen.  The SUV continued across 56th Street and re-entered I-80 via the eastbound on ramp.  At that time the trooper clocked the Escalade at 95mph in a 55 mph construction zone and attempted a traffic stop.  The vehicle failed to pull over and continue eastbound on I-80 at a high rate of speed.   Stop sticks were deployed at mm 408, just prior to the Waverly Interchange deflating the SUV’s left front tire.  The driver drove the SUV down into the south ditch near the Waverly Interchange and continued on parallel to the Interstate before returning to the roadway and coming to a stop at mm 410.  The pursuit lasted approximately four minutes and reached speeds over 100 mph.

The driver of the vehicle, 40 year-old Michael McGinn Sr. of Bennet, Nebraska, was taken into custody and lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on charges of Flight to Avoid Arrest, DUI 4th Offense, Willful Reckless Driving, Fictitious Plates, No Proof of Ownership, and Speeding among other charges.

A female passenger in the vehicle was cited for Open Container and released.
