Eight DUI Arrests Made During
Troop D Safety Saturday Enforcement

(North Platte, NE)- Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Troop D Headquarters- North Platte made 196 contacts and arrested eight motorists for Driving under the Influence (DUI) during the agency’s second “Safety Saturday’s” initiative.

A female driver traveling with two children in her vehicle was among the eight motorists arrested for DUI.   The driver was stopped at a vehicle checkpoint on State Farm Road, South of North Platte, in Lincoln County, Nebraska.  The female had two children ages 10 & 3 in the vehicle.  Neither child was properly restrained.  The children were removed and placed in the custody of another relative.  The driver was transported to the Lincoln County Jail and lodged on Driving under the Influence, and Open Container violations.

A total of six juveniles were ticketed for Minor in Possession of Alcohol and one person was ticketed for Procuring Alcohol for a Minor and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.   Six people were also cited for having Open Containers of Alcohol in their vehicles. Troopers also issued 16 Seat Belt Violation citations.

A “Safety Saturday” traffic stop four miles east of Imperial on Highway 6 in Chase County, led to the arrest of a New Mexico man on a Texas Warrant for money laundering.   38-year-old Jaime Samaniego was driving a 2003 Chevy Pickup when stopped around 9:30 p.m., Saturday night.   Samaniego is wanted out of Andrews County, Texas.  He was lodged in the Chase County Jail, awaiting extradition.

“Safety Saturdays” is a series of special enforcements in which troopers in the assigned Troop Area work adjusted schedules so that extra troopers are available on the assigned Saturday. The added enforcement initiative is aimed at reducing crash causing behaviors, such as impaired driving.

This was the second of six planned “Safety Saturdays” initiatives planned across the state.  A list of the remaining Troop Areas and dates is below.  Specific information on the planned enforcement activities can be obtained by contacting the Troop Area Headquarters.
