NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 July 22, 2009 Two Arrested after Traffic Stops for Speeding(Kearney, NE)- Drivers in two separate vehicles were arrested on drug charges after a trooper stopped the cars for speeding on Interstate 80 in Buffalo County.
Shortly after 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Troop C Headquarters-Grand Island stopped two eastbound vehicles for speeding near the Shelton Interchange on Interstate 80. During the stop, the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity when he smelled the odor of marijuana and observed a small amount of marijuana on the front passenger seat of the second vehicle stopped.
An NSP K-9 unit was called to the scene. The canine alerted to the odor of drugs coming from the rear of the first vehicle stopped a 2009, silver, Nissan Altima, driven by 42-year-old Victoria Gregory of Bay Shore, New York. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of three bales of marijuana weighting 116 lbs. The marijuana was recovered from the trunk of the vehicle. The trooper uncovered further information indicating the two vehicles were traveling together. It is believed the marijuana was headed from Phoenix, Arizona to Long Island, New York.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 2008, red, Chevy Cobalt, 27-year-old Lonnie Walker of Palm Bay, Florida was lodged in the Buffalo County Detention Center on a charge of Conspiracy to Distribute Marijuana.
The female driver of the first vehicle, Victoria Gregory was lodged in the Buffalo County Detention Center on a charge of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.
