NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 July 1, 2009 July 4th Holiday Vehicle Check Results(Lincoln, NE)- The Nebraska State Patrol Headquarters Troop-Lincoln, in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted a vehicle check today, July 1, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. - noon, on Route 136 about a ½ mile east of the city of Auburn in Nemaha County, Nebraska.
Vehicle check points are utilized in an effort to reduce traffic accidents, by encouraging the safe upkeep and operation of motor vehicles on Nebraska roadways. The State Fire Marshal’s Office also participated in the check point, as a means of preventing transportation of illegal fireworks into the state.
Troopers inspected 125 vehicles during the check point. A 36-year-old Overland Park, Kansas man was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI); he was lodged in the Nemaha County Jail. Other warnings issued include Seat Belt violations (11), Child Restraint (1), No Proof of Insurance (6), and Driving Left of Center (1). One individual was cited for having an Open Container.
During vehicle checkpoints, troopers will inspect such items as, driver’s licenses, vehicle registration papers, proof of insurance, lights, both high and low beam, turn signals, brakes, horn and windshield wipers. The condition of the driver will also be assessed during the check.
Two violations were issued by the Fire Marshal’s Office for Unlawful Possession of Fireworks and one for Unlawful Transportation of Fireworks. For more information on Fireworks violations contact the Nebraska Fire Marshal’s Office at (402) 471-2027.
