One Suspect Arrested after
Jefferson County Pursuit

(Lincoln, NE)-  One suspect is arrested after an early morning pursuit of a stolen minivan in Jefferson County.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m., a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol spotted a 2008 Kia Sedona minivan traveling eastbound through Harbine at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle matched the description of a stolen vehicle that been in an earlier pursuit with deputies from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office.  The Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle which headed southbound on Highway 103, continuing onto a county road.  The vehicle failed to negotiate a hard right turn approximately three miles south of Highway 8 on County Road 581 and rolled, landing on its top in a shallow creek bed.   Two suspects fled the scene on foot into nearby farm fields.

The Nebraska State Patrol Air Wing was called in to help search for the suspects.  Shortly before 5:00 a.m. one of the suspects identified as 24-year-old Timothy Denton, of Beatrice, turned himself in to authorities ¾ of a mile north of the crash scene.  Denton was taken to the Jefferson Community Health Center where he was treated and released.  A second suspect 18-year-old Matthew May, of Fairbury, turned up at a hospital in Beatrice around 7:30 a.m., where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

Denton, who was believed to be driving the vehicle, was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on charges to include, Flight to Avoid Arrest, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.  May, was cited and released for Flight to Avoid Arrest, Possession of Stolen Property and Obstructing a Police Investigation.

The Nebraska State Patrol was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.  The pursuit lasted approximately seven minutes reaching speeds near 100 miles per hour.
