NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 June 3, 2008 Omaha Metro Safety Initiative Plans June Enforcement Efforts(Lincoln, NE)-Throughout the month of June, the Nebraska State Patrol, in conjunction with the Omaha Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, will be conducting a series of high visibility enforcement efforts. The special enforcements are part of the Omaha Metro Safety Initiative (OMSI). OMSI is designed to emphasize traffic and citizen safety in selected areas of the Omaha Metro.
The combined efforts will take place, Friday, June 6, 2008, Sunday, June 8, Wednesday, June 11, Saturday, June 14, Tuesday, June 17, Sunday, June 22nd, Thursday, June 26, and Saturday, June 28, 2008. Efforts will involve high visibility saturation patrols in areas to include Highway 75, South Kennedy Freeway, Sorenson Parkway, I-480 and I-680.
This is the third OMSI selective, paid for thanks in part to a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS). In the two previous efforts citations were written and arrests were made for violations to include DUI, Speeding, Driving Under Suspension, Seat Belt & Child Safety Seat and registration violations.
“The Omaha Metro Safety Initiative is designed to present a unified presence in the enforcement of traffic laws” said Troop A-Omaha Captain Tom Schwarten. “By doing so, we hope to reduce crash causing behaviors and in turn reduce the number of individuals killed or injured in traffic accidents.”
