What is CrimeStoppers?

CrimeStoppers is a program that is used throughout the United States and and other countries.  It's basic purpose is to provide a network to allow crime-solving tips from the public to be forwarded to Law Enforcement authorities.  This network is set up in such a way to allow the caller to remain completely anonymous which encourages people to report illegal activity.  It also allows for cash rewards to be paid to citizens who report illegal activity to the Police.  This also encourages people to call in tips. 

What is Nebraska CrimeStoppers?

Nebraska CrimeStoppers started it's program in 1989.  It is comprised of a board consisting of citizens, law enforcement, and members of the media   This state program started with a dual purpose in mind.  One was to establish a network for reporting crime tips in an anonymous way along with being eligible for a cash reward. The second purpose for the Nebraska CrimeStoppers program was to assist in the establishment of  local CrimeStoppers programs across the state.

How does Nebraska CrimeStoppers operate?

A citizen calls into the State CrimeStoppers toll free number ( 1-800-422-1494 ) and speaks with a Nebraska State Patrol dispatcher.  The citizen caller is assigned a number in order to allow the caller to remain   anonymous  The Information from the caller is documented on a form.  This form is then forwarded to an officer with the Nebraska State Patrol who has been designated as the CrimeStopper coordinator.  The information is immediately relayed to the proper law enforcement jurisdiction for investigation.
