Accident Reduction Efforts Result in
Additional Funding

(Lincoln, NE) – The State of Nebraska is among eight states nationwide to receive full incentive funding from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA).  The funding totaling $189,357.00 is utilized by the Nebraska State Patrol’s Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program which provides financial assistance to reduce the number and severity of accidents and hazardous material incidents involving commercial motor vehicles.

A state qualifies for the additional incentive funding by demonstrating its Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Safety Program has led to a reduction in fatal accidents and shown improvement in three categories related to the reporting of all fatal and nonfatal accidents.   Nebraska is one of only eight states including, Idaho, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, West Virginia and Wisconsin, to qualify for the additional funding for Fiscal Year 2008.

Nebraska State Patrol Superintendent, Colonel Bryan Tuma said, “This has truly been a cooperative effort between the Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Department of Roads, Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Commercial Motor Vehicle Industry working together in an effort to reduce commercial motor vehicle accidents statewide.”
