NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 March 4, 2008 Omaha Metro Safety Initiative Plans March Enforcement Efforts(Lincoln, NE)- The Nebraska State Patrol, in conjunction with the Omaha Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, will be conducting a series of high visibility enforcement efforts through the month of March. The special enforcements are part of the Omaha Metro Safety Initiative (OMSI). The combined efforts will take place Friday, March 7, 2008, Saturday, March 8, Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30, 2008. Efforts will involve high visibility saturation patrols in areas to include Highway 75, South Kennedy Freeway and I-480. Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol participating in the special initiative will utilize overtime hours paid for thanks in part to a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS). The Omaha Metro Safety Initiative is designed to emphasize traffic and citizen safety in selected areas of the city. February OMSI efforts resulted in 154 citations, 96 warnings and 158 violation cards. Citations during the February enforcements were written for speeding (79), Driving While Intoxicated (2), Driving Under Suspension (11), Seat Belt (16) and Child Restraint Violations (4). ###
