NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 or Troop A Captain Tom Schwarten (402) 331-3333 February 27, 2008 154 Citations Written During High Visibility Enforcements (Lincoln, NE) – 154 citations were written, 96 warnings were issued, and 158 violation cards, were given out during three separate special enforcements. The high visibility traffic enforcement efforts were conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol in conjunction with the Omaha Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as part of the Omaha Metro Safety Initiative. The combined enforcements took place on Friday, February 16, 2008, Thursday, February 21 and Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Efforts included saturation patrols in the areas to include Sorensen Parkway between 20th and 72nd Streets, Interstate 680 and Highway 75 and Interstate 480. Citations were written for Speeding (79), Driving While Intoxicated (2), Driving Under Suspension (11), and Possession of Marijuana less than an Ounce (11). Nine people were arrested on active warrants. Sixteen Seat Belt citations and warnings were issued and four Child Restraint warnings and citations were handed out. One person was arrested for Carrying a Concealed Weapon without a Permit, another motorist was arrested for Possession of Cocaine. Seven contacts were made with suspected gang members. The Omaha Metro Safety Initiative is designed to emphasize traffic and citizen safety in selected areas of the city. ###
