Checkpoint Focuses on Seat Belt Usage

(Lincoln, NE) – Nebraska State Patrol Troopers made 100 contacts and issued 21 citations during a two-hour seatbelt checkpoint, Thursday, February 21, 2008, in Lexington.
Eight motorists were arrested for either no Driver’s License or Driving on a Suspended License.  Seven Seat Belt citations and 12 Seat Belt warnings were written.  One Child Restraint citation was also issued.   Another driver was cited for having a loaded shotgun in their vehicle.  Citations and warnings were issued for a variety of other offenses to include, no proof of insurance and no proof of registration.
“We hope everyone, not just those involved in the checkpoint, but everyone in the Lexington area realizes the importance of seat belts,” said Troop D Captain Jim Parish.  “Making sure everyone in your car is buckled up is your best defense against injury should you be involved in a crash.”
The special enforcement took place from 3:00- 5:00 p.m. on Cattleman’s Road in the south part of the Dawson County community.
