NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 February 21, 2008 Accident Reduction Selective Stops Speedy Driver(Lincoln, NE) – A citation for going 40 miles-an-hour over the posted speed limit was just one of the contacts written, Thursday, February 21, 2008, by Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol and Saunders County Sheriff’s Deputies during a special enforcement designed to draw attention to crash causing behaviors on rural roads. The citation was issued to a 17-year-old male driver, for going 95 mph in a 55 mph zone on a paved county road. The juvenile driver, along with a 17-year-old male passenger was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, during the visibility enforcement effort. “This is the reason we are out here,” said Headquarter Troop-Lincoln Captain Steve Ayres. “Speeding, driver inattention and driving too fast for conditions are big factors in crashes. We want to send a message to motorists to slow down, pay attention, and give themselves the best opportunity to get to where they are going safely.” The two-hour special enforcement effort took place from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., and focused on Highway 79 as well as other county roads near Valparaiso in Saunders County. Other citations issued during the enforcement included; • 6 Speeding Citations • 10 Speeding Warning • 1 Citation for Fictitious Plates • 2 Warnings for having Headlights Out • 1 Child Restraint Violation Citation ###
