NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 February 21, 2008 Troopers Take the Plunge for Special Olympics(Lincoln, NE) – Saturday, February 23, 2008, Troopers from Headquarters Troop-Lincoln will take the plunge for Special Olympics. The group will join other law enforcement officers and area citizens who are “Freezin’ for a Reason”. The Polar Bear Plunge 2008, for Special Olympics will take place beginning at 10:45 a.m. at Holmes Lake in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Polar Bear Plunge is one of the many events the Nebraska State Patrol participates in, in support of the more than 3000 intellectually disabled Nebraskans who participate in Special Olympics. Participating plungers collect pledges from family and friends in exchange for their icy adventure. All proceeds collected from the plunge will benefit Special Olympics Nebraska. Check-in and registration begins at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, with the team and individual plunge getting underway at 10:45 a.m. Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories, with an awards party following the plunge. The Polar Bear Plunge provides an opportunity for Troopers and the public to support the worthy mission of Special Olympics Nebraska. That mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and participate in sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other athletes, and the community.
