NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 February 14, 2008 Special Enforcement Efforts Continue In Omaha Metro(Lincoln, NE) – The Nebraska State Patrol in conjunction with the Omaha Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting three special enforcement efforts through the end of February. The special enforcements are part of the Omaha Metro Safety Initiative. The combined enforcements will take place Saturday, February 16, 2008, Thursday, February 21, 2008, and Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Efforts will involve saturation patrol in areas to include Sorensen Parkway between 20th and 72nd streets, Interstate 680 and 108th Street between Fort and Maple and Highway 75 and North Freeway. The Omaha Metro Safety Initiative is designed to emphasize traffic and citizen safety in selected areas of the city. “We want citizens in Omaha to know that we are concerned about their safety,” said Troop A Captain Tom Schwarten. “By forming a partnership with other Metro law enforcement agencies we are able to present a unified front in our efforts to make contact with those individuals who choose to break the law.” During two previous special enforcement efforts, officers issued 52 Speeding citations & warnings, to include four issued to motorists going more than 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. Other citations or warnings were issued for Driving Under Suspension, Driving Under the Influence, and Registration violations
