Violators Target of Special Enforcement

(Lincoln, NE) – Fourteen people were arrested for Driving Under Suspension, and 52 Speeding citations & warnings were issued by the Nebraska State Patrol Troop A- Omaha in cooperation with the Omaha Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office during the first of several special enforcements.   The special efforts are planned as part of the Omaha Metro Safety Initiative designed to emphasize traffic and citizen safety in selected areas of the city.

The special enforcements which took place Monday, February 04, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Thursday, January 31, 2008, beginning at 9:00 p.m., and continuing into the early morning hours on Friday, February 1, 2008, focused on the area of Highway 75 and Lake Street in Omaha. 

Of the 52 citations & warnings issued for Speeding, four of the individuals contacted were stopped for going more than 90mph in a 55mph zone.  Two people were cited for Driving Under the Influence and eight citations were written for drug violations to include Possession of Marijuana Less than One Ounce.  A total of 76 violation cards for a variety of equipment failures were also issued.

Troopers from the Nebraska State Patrol K-9, Traffic, Carrier and Investigative Services Divisions along with Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office participated in the special enforcement efforts.
