NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 January 17, 2008 Weight Law Violations Lead to Citations and Fines(Lincoln, NE) – Fines totaling $6, 050.00 were issued over the past week by Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division, for vehicles violating state weight laws. From January 8, 2008 through January 14, 2008 Troopers utilizing portable scales stopped three vehicles each determined to be exceeding the maximum allowable weight. The first stop occurred in the Lexington area and involved a truck hauling waste from a packing plant. The vehicle exceeded the legal weight on a tandem axle by 16,200 lbs. and its registered weight by 6,400 lbs. Fines for the violations totaled a possible $2,175.000. A grain truck in the Cambridge area was found to be 7,800 lbs. over the allowable weight on a single axle, resulting in a fine of $1,150.00. The third stop involved a vehicle hauling waste water in the Lincoln area. The vehicle exceeded the allowable weight on one single axle by 8,100 lbs. another by 6,600 lbs and was 6,200 lbs. over its registered weight. Troopers issued fines totaling $2, 725.00 in the third stop. “Vehicles exceeding the weight limit are not only damaging our roads, but can also be dangerous,” said Carrier Enforcement Captain Gerry Krolikowski. “Our Troopers are out there working hard to ensure these violators aren’t putting themselves or anyone else in jeopardy.” The Carrier Enforcement Division operates both stationary weigh stations and portable units across the state to prevent destructive use of highways and bridges in order to preserve the state’s infrastructure. ###
