NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL www.nsp.state.ne.us Contact: Deb Collins 402-479-4985 January 16, 2008 Special Selective Focuses on Platte, Colfax Counties(Norfolk, NE) – Nearly 700 motorists were contacted during a special selective held over the weekend in Platte and Colfax Counties. The enforcement took place Thursday, January 10, 2008 through Saturday, January 12, 2008 involving Troop B Headquarters- Norfolk. 15 Troopers worked overtime hours participating in saturation patrols and vehicle checkpoints in an effort to remove impaired drivers from our state’s roadways. Troopers issued a total of 117 citations as well as 555 warnings & violations during the three-day special enforcement effort. Six motorists were arrested for Driving Under the Influence, seven juveniles were cited for being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol and eight drivers were arrested for Driving Under Suspension. Eight citations were issued for Open Container and three Child Neglect citations were written to individuals who were arrested for DUI. Seventeen citations were issued to individuals for various drug violations to include Possession of Marijuana less than an Ounce. The special selective efforts were paid for thanks in part to a grant from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Program (HIDTA). HIDTA enhances and coordinates drug control efforts among local, state and Federal Law Enforcement. Nebraska is a member of the Midwest Region of HIDTA to include, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, North and South Dakota. ###
